A Stave Church

Sacred Studio was a chance for me to study religious Norwegian architecture. Stave Churches, being some of the oldest wooden structures in the world and some of the most beautiful examples of early timber framing, were extraordinary to study. The only issue is that they moved out of style for the Lutheran Church as they were much too small for modern practices. I attempted to design a church with these issues in mind.

Design phase

The main design was centered around these two drawings. The windows, doors, roof, walls, and balcony designs changed often; however, the overall design stayed the same. The idea to render this structure in charcoal was a homage to how these buildings were constructed. I would also be able to find similar textures with this technic.
